The Flyers scored three power play goals. Unfortunately, they also allowed three power plays against. Nick Foligno and James Wisniewski each netted two goals. Ryan Johansen had four assists and the Columbus Blue Jackets skated away with a 4-3 victory Friday night at the Wells Fargo Center.
James Wisniewski opened the scoring for Columbus at 8:23 of the first period on the power play with his first goal of the season. Claude Giroux answered with his 5th of the year, also on the power play, at 12:58 of the period.
The period would end with yet another powerplay goal for the Blue Jackets. Nick Foligno would get his 8th of the season with the man advantage at 17:10. There were three total penalties in the first period. All three peanlties were capitalized on.
The second period opened with yet another powerplay goal. This time it was Jakub Voracek slamming home a rebound to tie the game at 3:21. The Flyers had some jump early in the period but the wheels would fall off.
Six minutes after Voracek had tied, Foligno scored the games only even strength goal of the night. He picked the puck up along the boards and skated all the way in front of the net to the other side and buried his second of the game and ninth on the season.
Just under four minutes later Wisniewski would get the eventual game winner with two Flyers in the box. Jason Akeson was whistled for tripping at 11:40. Sean Couturier would join him 37 seconds later for the same infraction. The Flyers almost killed off the two man advantage but after a few failed clears the puck was in the back of the net.
The third period began with the Flyers on the powerplay. Yet again they would score with the man advantage. Steve Mason passed th puck out from behind the net to Giroux who found Michael Del Zotto streaking up the boards.
Del Zotto would bury the shot from outside the circle just 1:10 into the period. It was as close as they Flyers would get. The onslaught on Steve Mason would continue throughout the third and the Flyers ultimately had no answer for Columbus.
The win snapped Columbus' nine game winless streak while also ending the Flyers three game winning streak. Voracek and Brayden Schenn each kept their point streaks alive. Voracek has now registered points in nine straight games while Schenn has a four game streak going.
The Flyers next game is tomorrow night in Montreal. Game time is 7:00.
