Wow.
After losing 15 consecutive regular season
games to the Heat, the 76ers finally find a way to defeat them, winning tonight
114-110. With arguably the most unrecognizable roster in the NBA, the Sixers
have officially shocked the basketball world tonight.
Rookie point guard Michael Carter-Williams burst
onto the NBA scene tonight. He looked like a seasoned veteran, nearly achieving
a tripple-double with 22 points (6-10 FG), 12 assists, and 9 STEALS! That is a
rookie record for steals in a debut game. Oh, and he also grabbed 7 rebounds.
He did all of this while turning the ball over just once all night.
Evan Turner led all scorers with 26,
adding 4 rebounds and 5 assists. He shot efficiently from the floor (10-19),
and the Sixers would love to see more of this from Turner this season. Turner
and MCW both played over 35 minutes tonight.
Spencer Hawes turned in an extremely efficient night
for the Sixers. In 29 minutes he put up 24 points (10-14 from the field!), 9
boards, and 2 assists. That kind of production from the center position is
something the Sixers have been missing for years. If Hawes can consistently
hover around 10-15 points per night with 7-10 rebounds per night, the Sixers
will be in good shape.
Thaddeus Young's performance was a bit
disappointing. He finished with 10 points on 5-15 shooting, with 2 rebounds, 2
assists, and 5 turnovers. The rest of the Sixers role players picked up the
slack for Thad, and I expect he will bounce back from this performance next
game.
The Sixers showed the world that despite their lack
of talent, they can still compete with the best team in the league. Their
hustle was outstanding, their teamwork was refreshing, and Brett Brown and Sam
Hinkie have definitely caught the attention of this city.

Sixers travel to D.C. to face the Wizards on Friday at 7 p.m
