Game Recap: Sixers vs. Hornets 12/19/14

Going into the half with a 20 point deficit almost never produces a win, and history tends to repeat itself. That’s exactly where the Sixers found themselves tonight with the game ending 109-91 in favor of Charlotte. The Sixers still seem to be able to run the floor and keep pace with most teams, but its on the defensive end that the team truly struggles most. The Hornets were seeing wide open looks tonight time after time. Zeller even put in what was almost a three, mostly because there was no one within 7 feet of him. If there was any semblance of a defensive effort tonight, it was Nerlens Noel. Even though he only finished with 6 points, he did what we drafted him to do. Noel grabbed 9 rebounds, and also added 3 blocks and 3 steals. If Noel can continue to size up and put on some weight, he could really be a problem in the lane.

On the offensive end, things were a little better. MCW finished with 14 points and 10 assists. He does continue to put up double digit stats, but he is still in the habit of turning the ball over. There was one specific play where it didn’t even look like he had anyone else on the court. He simply took the ball, looked like he was trying to get fouled, and ended up having it stripped on the way up. He just tries to force things that aren’t there, and that is typical of a young player, but its definitely an issue that needs to be worked on. Robert Covington and Tony Wroten both had 19 points. Covington continues his solid play and is really proving to be someone that can draw attention from defenses. Wroten in his fourth game back has also contributed meaningful minutes. If he and Carter-Williams can learn to coexist, we could have a nice duo for the next few years. As for the weekend, the Sixers will take on Orlando Sunday evening at 6 o clock.
