The Flyers will be without their captain for the next two games. Claude Giroux exited practice on Monday and seemed to be fine, but as the day wore on, it was clear he was dealing with an injury.
Giroux has a lower-body injury that Ron Hextall said would keep him off the ice for a short period. Giroux will miss Wednesday night's game against the Rangers and Thursday night's game against the Minnesota Wild. Hextall also said the injury was a matter of days, not weeks, hinting at a potential Saturday return for Giroux against Columbus.
Giroux was one of the hottest Flyers, with points in five straight games. He is second on the Flyers with 21 points – five goals, 16 assists – in his first 16 games.
In Giroux's place, the Flyers are without an extra forward. They have called up Scott Laughton, who will make his season debut on Wednesday. Blair Jones was loaned to the Phantoms to make room for Laughton.
Laughton had six goals and five assists in 13 games for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.
