The legend of Shayne Gostisbehere continues to grow.
The rookie defenseman was called up to make his season debut in Carolina on Nov. 13. He assisted on the game-tying goal.
On Nov. 23, against the Hurricanes again, Gostisbehere scored the overtime winner on the power play.
On Tuesday night, the man-advantage was not needed. Gostisbehere scored the game-winner on a two-on-one with Jake Voracek to give the Flyers a 4-3 overtime win over the Hurricanes at Wells Fargo Center.
The Hurricanes struck for an early goal to open the scoring. Just 1:56 into the game, Jeff Skinner threw a shot on net and beat Michal Neuvirth to give Carolina the early lead.
That would be all the action in an uneventful first period. Shots were 9-6 Carolina through 20 minutes.
The second period featured much more action from the jump. Voracek got the Flyers on the board just 23 seconds into the period with his second goal of the season on a deflection.
The Hurricanes would answer with a power-play goal at 3:37. It was Skinner again, this time collecting a rebound in front of Neuvirth for his 13th goal of the season.
The Flyers responded with the equalizer just 58 seconds later as Brayden Schenn took the feed in the slot from Michael Raffl and fired it past Eddie Lack.
After the quick scoring outburst to start the period, there were fireworks of another kind midway through the period. Brad Malone was called for kneeing Raffl at center ice, and Wayne Simmonds came over in response and dropped the gloves. Malone was given two minutes for kneeing and five for fighting. Simmonds was hit with an instigation penalty, a fighting major and a 10-minute misconduct.
With under four minutes to go in the second, the Flyers would take the lead. Sean Couturier was coming up the right wing on a rush and threw a backhander on goal. Lack made the save but the rebound caromed off the skate of Jaccob Slavin and in to put the Flyers in front.
The Hurricanes started the third period with a power play that the Flyers killed off, but kept the pressure on to find the equalizer. At 9:07, they did.
It was Skinner striking for the third time, completing the hat trick on a turnaround shot that went high over Neuvirth.
Skinner's equalizer helped force overtime as the two teams battled through the final 10:53 without any scoring.
In the overtime, Voracek and Gostisbehere would get a two-on-one chance. Voracek waited out the defenseman and slid a perfect pass to Gostisbehere who went bar down to net the game-winning goal. It was his sixth of the season and third overtime winner.
Skinner's three goals brought his season total to 14. He has two hat tricks in his last three games.
Voracek, who assisted on both Gostisbehere's winner and Couturier's go-ahead goal in the second, had a three-point night. Couturier also had two points, assisting on Voracek's goal.
Neuvirth made 29 saves on 32 shots. Lack made 27 saves on 31 shots.

The Flyers return to the ice on Thursday night as they host the Vancouver Canucks. The opening face-off is set for 7 p.m. from Wells Fargo Center.
