Bad news on the injury front from the Flyers minor league system.

You may have read earlier today in our Future Flyers report that top prospect Shayne Gostisbehere suffered an injury in Friday night's game and did not return, but did skate off under his own power.

On Saturday, GM Ron Hextall updated the defenseman's condition and it proved to be the worst case scenario. Gostisbehere suffered a torn ACL and is out indefinitely.

Gostisbehere made his NHL debut earlier this season, but did not record a point in his only two NHL games.

With the Phantoms, Gostisbehere had five points, all assists, in five games.

Hextall said Gostisbehere will get to watch games at both the NHL and AHL level during recovery and assured his season is not over.

"We wanted him to play in the minors and this doesn't help the cause," Hextall said. "It's the hand he's dealt and he'll deal with it. He's a good kid. He works hard.

"He'll get back as quick as possible and build on what he's done so far. Every experience you go through makes you stronger and Shayne's gonna have to take this positive, work hard and get himself back to where he was."

Gostisbehere will have surgery on Nov. 13. Hextall said the recovery time is still months, not weeks.
