Habs down Flyers in OT, complete season sweep

Courtesy of a David Desharnais tally with 1:33 to play in overtime, the Flyers on Tuesday fell 2-1 to the Montreal Canadiens

The Flyers were able to hold the Canadiens off the board for 52:38 of game action, until Tomas Plekanec tied the game late in the third period with his 16th goal of the season.

Matt Read provided all of the Flyers' offense with his fourth goal of the season, just 51 seconds into the game. Wayne Simmonds notched his 15th assist on the goal, as Read snapped a 25-game goalless streak — dating back to Dec. 11.

Ray Emery made a season-high 39 saves on 41 Canadiens shots, starting in relief of the injured Steve Mason. Carey Price turned away 23 of 24 Flyers shots.

The Flyers' penalty kill was paramount, holding the Habs scoreless on three attempts. Not bad, for a PK unit that entered the game with the third-worst percentage and second-worst percentage on the road.

With the loss, the Flyers fell to 0-1-2 against the Canadiens this season — giving Le Bleu, Blanc et Rouge their first season sweep against the Orange and Black since the 2007-08 campaign.

The loser point earned by the Flyers in this game means they now sit eight points out of a playoff spot, as Boston fell 5-3 to Dallas on Tuesday. Of four possible points so far on this brief four-game road trip, the Flyers have earned three.

Next up for the Flyers is a Metropolitan Division game, as they visit Columbus at 7 p.m. on Friday — kicking off a four-game stretch in which they face both the Blue Jackets and the Buffalo Sabres twice.
