Hamels, Bumgarner open final series before All-Star break

Having lost eight of their last ten games, and being on pace for a 53-109 overall record this season, the Philadelphia Phillies (29-59) will open their final series before the Mid-Summer Classic tonight against left hander Madison Bumgarner and the San Francisco Giants (43-43).

Hamels, 31, is 6-3 with a 3.55 ERA over 14 career starts against the San Francisco Giants. At AT&T Park, the southpaw is 3-1 over six starts with a 4.61 ERA.

Bumgarner, 25, was recently named to his third career All-Star game, which will take place this Tuesday at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati, Ohio.

The three-time World Series champion and 2014 World Series Most Valuable Player is 3-2 in his career against the Phillies in six starts, with a 3.14 ERA.

Bumgarner last faced the Phillies just 33 days ago, on June 6, where he allowed five runs on six hits over eight innings on the mound. Two Phillies hit home runs off of the left hander that game: right fielder Jeff Francoeur, his fourth of the season, and pinch-hitter Andres Blanco, his first.
