Denver, CO – The Phillies (17-23) began their road trip tonight in Colorado for game one of a four-game series with the Rockies (13-22). With the team looking to extend their Major League best five-game winning streak to six, Cole Hamels tossed a gem and the Phillies offense used a three-run sixth inning en route to a 4-1 victory over the Rockies. The Phillies win combined with tonight's Marlins loss moved the Phils out of last place in the NL East and it also is their first six-game winning streak since September 5-12, 2012.

The Phillies put up an unearned run in the first to kick off the scoring. After Ben Revere led off the inning with a single, Freddy Galvis hit a grounder to first. Rockies first baseman, Wilin Rosario, in an attempt to get Revere at second as well, rushed and missed the bag at first to retire Galvis. Freddy was originally ruled out at first, but an umpire review showed that Rosario's foot never touched the bag. With runners on first and second, Grady Sizemore's flyout moved Revere to third then Ryan Howard hit an RBI-single to drive him in and make it a 1-0 game.

The Rockies evened things up in the second inning. Wilin Roasario hit a lead off single and stole second during the next at bat. After a Nick Hundley groundout moved Rosario to third, DJ LeMahieu hit an RBI-single to right, tying the game at one a piece.

The Phillies got Cole Hamels some support in the sixth after missing out on some opportunities during prior innings with runners in scoring position. Maikel Franco hit a two-out single and Chase Utley drew a walk. With two on and one out, Odubel Herrera smacked a two-run double to the wall in right, giving the Phillies a 3-1 lead. Herrera advanced to third on the throw after his double and Carlos Ruiz followed with an RBI-single to extend the Phillies lead to three, 4-1.

In the eighth, Cole Hamels started the inning with 103 pitches. After getting left-hander Charlie Blackmon to fly out, Ryne Sandberg called upon Luis Garcia out of the bullpen. Immediately, Nolan Arenado singled and Troy Tulowitzki reached base on a Maikel Franco error. Next up was Carlos Gonzalez, and he singled to score Arenado from second, despite a strong throw from Jeff Francoeur in right field, cutting the Phillies lead in half, 4-2.

After taking sole possession of first place on the Phillies all-time saves list last week, Jonathan Papelbon came in for his 10th save of the year. He got Drew Stubbs to strike out swinging before surrendering a triple to DJ LeMahieu. Papelbon rebounded and got pinch-hitter Corey Dickerson to strikeout swinging, but Charlie Blackmon hit a two-out single to make it a 4-3 ballgame. Fortunately, Nolan Arenado struck out to end the game, sealing the Phillies sixth straight win.
