Harry Gamble, Former Eagles GM Dies

 

Harry Gamble, former Philadelphia Eagles general manager and executive has passed away.

 

Gamble was the general manager or President of the Eagles from 1985-1995, during a span in which the Eagles posted a record of 96-78-1. With Gamble at the helm, the Eagles posted a 2-5 record in the playoffs having been knocked out in either the wild card or divisional round five times. 

 

Prior to making the unlikely leap to the NFL, Gamble coached football at the University of Pennsylvania for 10 years, from 1971-80, and went 34-55-2. His first team went 2-7 . Then he recorded back-to-back seasons of 6-3 in 1972-73.

 

His rise to the top of the organization began in 1980 when Gamble resigned as the head coach at Penn and took an unpaid coaching job under Eagles head coach Dick Vermeil. 

 

Gamble is responsible for bringing some of the most well known players and personalities in team history to Philadelphia. Names such as Reggie White, Randall Cunningham, Keith Jackson, Seth Joyner, Mike Quick and Jerome Brown, among them. 

 

In 1994 when then owner Norman Braman sold the team to Jeffrey Lurie, Gamble's tenure with the Eagles came to an end. 

 

Gamble's son Tom is currently the Eagles VP of Player Personnel under general manager Howie Roseman.
