PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — The Phillies surprising start to the season has been the result of good pitching, and they got more of it on Friday night as they opened a nine-game homestand.
Jeremy Hellickson delivered seven solid innings on the mound and the go-ahead RBI as the Phillies claimed a 3-2 win over the Cincinnati Reds at Citizens Bank Park on Friday night.

Hellickson struck out the side in the first, but ran into trouble in the second, giving up two hits to put runners at the corners with two outs for Tucker Barnhart. Barnhart lifted a fly ball to the warning track in left. Tyler Goeddel was there, but the ball hit off his glove and was dropped. Two runs scored for the Reds on the error.
Goeddel would finally get redemption in the fourth. After walks to Carlos Ruiz and Tommy Joseph, Goeddel lined a triple down the right-field line to score two, tying the game. Hellickson came up next and successfully plated Goeddel with a squeeze bunt to give the Phillies the lead.
Hellickson went on to pitch seven solid innings, allowing just the two unearned runs on four hits with one walk and nine strikeouts.
Hector Neris and Jeanmar Gomez came on in relief to close out another one-run win for the Phillies in the eighth and ninth. For Gomez, it was his league-leading 14th save of the season.
