About the biggest shock of the day from the Phillies came from the lack of anyone being dropped from the 40 man. No Valle, no Garcia, no Gillies. No one. The Phillies added four players- Tommy Joseph, Scott Rasmussen, Aaron Altherr, and Kelly Dugan. With Joseph clear of concussions, he is the catcher of the future. Rasmussen was just picked up for Michael Young, and has lefty-reliever written on him. Altherr had a greatly improved season, and is high ceiling. Dugan, a former top pick, appeared to finally have the light-bulb go on.
The Phillies kept 38 players, and the only semi-surprise is that they left Seth Rosin, obtained in the Hunter Pence deal with San Francisco, available in the Rule 5 Draft. They must feel pretty comfortable with where they are. They still have room for a starting pitcher and reliever, though I suspect having so little room at 38 guys means they are looking to trade.
