The NHL trade deadline has come and gone, and not only was it a very active day, it was also a total blast. The two most exciting and nerve-racking days for hockey fans in a calendar year have to be the entry draft and the trade deadline. The deadline is where teams usually make minor moves in an attempt to land what they think is the final piece of the puzzle which will help them lift Lord Stanley's Chalice in June. The entry draft is when teams normally make the bigger deals because there is less at stake when and less chance of disrupting chemistry when the season isn't in full swing.
This year a lot of big names were moved in big enough deals where if this is any indication of what the draft will be like, we're in for a real treat. Team captains Martin St. Louis and Ryan Callahan were swapped by the Tampa Bay Lightning and New York Rangers, Thomas Vanek was traded for the second time in a season to the Montreal Canadiens, Nashville predator lifer David Legwand was dealt to their once divisional rival Detroit Red Wings, and most importantly: Roberto Luongo was traded to the Florida Panthers.
Why is that important? Here's why:
While the infamous @strombone1 Twitter account is not a verified one, it's common knowledge that Roberto Luongo is the man behind it … and he's hilarious. After the trade went down, Luongo tweeted out a palm tree. Just amazing.
If you're not following Luongo, do so now.
See you guys and gals, girls and guys, men and women and children, and everybody else next week!
