Flyers President and former general manager Paul Holmgren was named assistant general manager of Team USA for the 2016 World Cup of Hockey.
USA Hockey made the announcement on Thursday afternoon in Colorado Springs, Co.
The general manager of the team will be Los Angeles Kings GM Dean Lombardi. Brian Burke, the president of hockey operations for the Calgary Flames, was named senior advisor. Jim Johannson, the assistant executive director of USA Hockey, was named director of hockey operations.
Holmgren served on the US Men’s National Team Advisory Group from 2009 to 2014 and was the assistant GM of the 2006 US Olympic team.
Eight countries will participate in the World Cup of Hockey. Teams must announce at least 16 players on the roster by March 1, 2016. The entire roster of 23 must be unveiled by June 1, 2016.
