It's not good to become paranoid over something like Joel Embiid, but in certain situations, as serious as this one could become, it's always a good thing to become precautionary when dealing with his knees, whether the soreness is serious or not.
Yesterday, it was reported that Sixers center Joel Embiid was experiencing "a little soreness" in his knee. It was also said that the team wasn't concerned about it.
Um, if I was the team, I should be a little bit concerned over this. Really, how quickly do we forget how Embiid was ruled out for the remainder of the season last year.
He experienced pain in his knee throughout the week before the Sixers played the Rockets on ESPN on January 27 last season, and played anyway.
Little did we know that would be Embiid's final game of an impressive 2016-17.
If the Sixers were a smart team, they would sit Embiid no matter who they are playing to prevent an injury.
I understand that that's not how you want to control a basketball team, you want the players to play and whatnot, but if Embiid is experiencing any soreness with his history, you don't want to aggravate that anymore than it already is.
Also, why are the Sixers not concerned about it? They weren't concerned about it last season, and it costed him the rest of the season, just because it was a "big" game, and the fans wanted to see him play at home on national television.
Tonight, the Sixers play the defending-champion Golden State Warriors in the biggest test of the season. Embiid gets a chance to shine in front of the world against a tough opponent.
But if he does indeed experience soreness in his knee, no matter how much it is, the Sixers would be smart to sit out Embiid tonight, or at least play him minimally to prevent him missing a hell of a lot more than he missed last year.
