PHILADELPHIA— The Phillies came into Friday night getting ready to take on the visiting Miami Marlins for a three-game series at Citizens Bank Park. The Phils are coming off of a back-and-forth four game cross-state rivalry series against Pittsburgh, in which the Phillies and Pirates split the series.
Philadelphia was looking for a big win against their division counterparts, and try to make the Marlins' wild card hopes a little less attainable. The Phillies sent Adam Morgan to the hill to face Tom Koehler.
While both the Phillies and Marlins contributed hits early on in the contest, runs were a hard thing to come by until the fifth inning. Adam Morgan surrendered seven hits and two runs, none earned against the Marlins offense. Morgan's start on Friday night was comparable to his last three starts, where allowed a combined five earned runs, pitching into the sixth inning into three of those starts.
Manager Pete Mackanin shockingly pulled Morgan after four and a third innings and only allowing one run in favor of David Hernandez, who got out of the inning, with runners on second and third base.
Ryan Howard, notably, got the scoring going early on in the ballgame with a solo shot, his 22nd of the year. Howard's solo blast was his 379th of his incredible career in the MLB. That career home run tied Tony Perez and Orlando Cepeda for 70th on the all-time list.
The Phillies and the Marlins would trade zeroes on the scoreboard, all the way up until the thirteenth inning, which officially made it the longest game of the 2016 season for the Phillies.
Jimmy Paredes hit a single to right field to walk-off in the bottom of the thirteenth, to give the Phillies the win in dramatic fashion and send the crowd home happy.
The Phillies will look to continue their momentum against the Marlins in Philly tomorrow night as they will send their reliable veteran righty Jeremy Hellickson to the mound to face José Urena.

The contest started off with five straight innings of scoreless ball between the two starters, Tom Koehler and Adam Morgan. Martin Prado doubled in the top of the fifth, scored Dee Gordon, and gave the Marlins an early 1-0 lead.
J.T. Realmuto came up, and singled in Giancarlo Stanton, who was occupying third base. With two outs, the Marlins extended their lead to 2-0.
Heading to the bottom of the sixth inning, Ryan Howard delivered his 22nd home run of the season, a solo homer, to make the game a 2-1 Marlins lead.
Odubel Herrera kept the scoring going with a double to Christian Yelich that scored Cameron Rupp. Herrera's double tied the game at two runs a-piece.
Aaron Altherr grounded into a force out that got Freddy Galvis out at second base, Herrera scored, and Altherr was safe at first base. This play gave the Phillies a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning.
In the top of the eighth inning, Derek Dietrich smashed a ball off of Edubray Ramos to right field to have the Marlins tie the game at three all.
The scoring would cease all the way up until the bottom of the thirteenth inning, in the middle of the Phillies' longest game of the season, when Jimmy Paredes pinch hit with the bases loaded. A line drive base hit by Paredes scored Peter Bourjos to give the Phillies the victory, 4-3.
