Inflated, Odd Offseason Continues: Ty Wigginton Signs With Cardinals For Two Years

.235 batting average, .314 on base percentage, poor defense at every possible position, and 35 years old.  What's that worth?

Apparently, that will net you a two-year, $5 million contract from the St. Louis Cardinals to be a back-up infielder.  Yes, folks, Ty Wigginton has managed to find a multi-year commitment to play for the Cardinals.  Consider me shocked.

We all know that a major TV boom is about to take place/has started to take place and that contracts likely would be on the rise, but even I am astonished at this deal.

Don't get me wrong: I once thought Ty Wigginton was a really nice piece to have on a roster, but in 2012 he clearly showed the decline that caused the Colorado Rockies to pay him $2 million to play elsewhere.  I even wondered if Wigginton would find a major league job in 2013.

Congratulations, Ty.  I can't wait to see what a useful part-time player in Scott Hairston gets.
