Injury Report: Redskins at Eagles
By Paul Bowman, Sports Talk Philly Editor
The Eagles open the 2019 season perhaps healthier than expected.
Chief among those not on the report is starting right guard, who is 300 pounds and tore his Achilles in the divisional round game against the Saints just eight months ago.
Of course, Trent Williams refuses to report to the team, removing a top left tackle from the team and allowing a weak left side for the pass rush to attack.
Injury Report
Eagles
Out
LB Kamu Grugier-Hill
Expected to be out for a few games, KGH is arguably the biggest problem for the Eagles to appear on these reports.
As he recovers from his MCL sprain, we will see who the team trusts to play. Zach Brown will likely see much of the time, but behind him it could be any of Nate Gerry, LJ Fort or TJ Edwards. These will be a key few games for LJ Fort and TJ Edwards and could show a lot about their future for their team.
QB Nate Sudfeld
No surprise here. Josh McCown is the clear backup to Wentz. At least until Sudfeld’s broken wrist is healed, then we can have plenty of debates about who is the true number two quarterback.
OT Jordan Mailata
Mailata suffered a back injury prior to the final preseason game and will be sidelined with the injury to start the season. The bigger question is probably: will Mailata be active or inactive on gamedays when he isn’t limited by injury?
Redskins
Out
CB Fabian Moreau
Moreau being out bodes well for the already stacked Eagles receiving corps. Listed as the third corner on the depth chart, the Eagles would be wise to test his replacement by targeting whoever they lineup in the slot.
QB Colt McCoy
Not really an impact to the game, McCoy was expected to be sidelined from his broken leg last season at the time of his injury.
Questionable
TE Jordan Reed
The only questionable player yet to practice, Reed is the most important player to appear on the report for the Redskins. The team lacks weapons other than a stable of young running backs and veteran back Adrian Peterson. Reed’s absence will make the job of the Eagles thinned linebacking corps that much easier.
DE Caleb Brantley
Brantley appearing here is what prompted the team to sign former Eagle Treyvon Hester. If he is out, expect to see Hester play meaningful snaps against the Birds.
LB Cassanova McKinzy
McKinzy is more of a depth linebacker, so his absence won’t be felt hugely if he weren’t to play. He appears in line to play, however, if his attendance at practice is any indication.
