In 2011, the Iron Pigs fell two wins short of winning the Governor's Cup as the International League champions, in their first season under Ryne Sandberg as manager. By some grace of God, Sandberg wasn't picked up as a big league manager, and well, he's back for a second year. What kind of team is he going to put on the field? Well, here's my first guess at what he's got.
- Rotation- Joel Pineiro, Pat Misch, Dave Bush, Scott Elarton, Nate Bump
- Line-Up- Pierre-CF, Galvis-SS, Brown-LF, Rizzotti-1B, Frandsen-3B, Kratz-C, Montanez-DH, Orr-2B, Thompson-RF
- Bullpen- Schwimer, De Fratus, Aumont, Savery, Herndon, Valdes, Horst, Sanches
- Bench- Gosewisch, Overbeck, Clevlen, Luna
The Iron Pigs site does a great job of keeping up with spring training. They did their own pre-season preview. I have some obvious questions here, for instance if Pierre will take an assignment, and if he will even have to (if he beats out Podsednik, no.). Keeping consistent with my Phillies picks though, I put him here. There's also the whole last relief spot with the big club, which is hardly answered.
I left a few pitchers off too, for now. I left out Austin Hyatt and Tyler Cloyd, both of whom had solid years in Reading, and will get here. For the record, I have those two and Trevor May, Julio Rodriguez, and Jon Pettibone making up the Reading rotation.
