There's no shortage of young talent in the Flyers' organization. Whether it be overseas, up north in one of the Canadian leagues, or right up the Turnpike in Lehigh Valley, Philadelphia's prospect depth is one of the NHL's elite.
With the team's Development Camp in the rear view mirror, one player who may be a diamond in the rough caught the attention of the Flyers brass and more. After a strong camp, Ivan Kosorenkov has secured a spot at Flyers training camp in September with even more of a future in the organization potentially ahead.
Many big-name prospects like Oskar Lindblom, Carter Hart and Travis Sanheim were on the ice at Development Camp and drew much of the attention. Kosorenkov was virtually unknown going into it.
The Russian winger went undrafted for the second straight year in the 2017 NHL Draft before the Flyers finally reached out to him with an invite to camp and the 19-year-old hit the ice with the rest of the Flyers prospects. Pascal Laberge, a second-round pick of the Flyers in 2016, played with Kosorenkov in the QMJHL this past season.
Kosorenkov notched 63 points in 68 games with the club, pretty impressive for a rookie. Flyers 2016 first-round pick German Rubtsov was also a teammate of Kosorenkov on Russia's U-18 IIHF World Championship team, although they were banned from the tournament for doping allegations.
GM Ron Hextall certainly expressed his praise for Korosenkov, and even said that he was definitely someone who could have gotten drafted yet surprisingly didn't, even in the waning rounds of the Draft. It could just further the idea that Kosorenkov is an undrafted gem waiting to get his shot with an NHL club.
Kosorenkov certainly has a strong chance of earning a contract, not unlike Philippe Myers did two years ago, and possibly even making it up to the NHL eventually. If all goes well, Hextall will have found himself another hidden gem in the realm of young talent.
There's been enough talk surrounding the possible future Flyer so check out what he can do in the video below.
