Earlier today, we reported that Jahlil Okafor's status was up in the air following a CT scan the Sixers got back on his injured right knee and shin. The team throughly reviewed the results and unfortunately it revealed a small tear of his right meniscus, Sam Hinkie announced in an official team release. The rookie center will miss about six weeks.
“Jahlil recently started to experience discomfort in his right knee, which we immediately investigated. After a comprehensive series of tests and additional evaluation by our medical team, it was revealed that he has a small tear of the meniscus. Jahlil will undergo a minor arthroscopic procedure to address the injury. Timing and details of the procedure will be finalized in the coming days."Our medical team will continually monitor and evaluate Jahlil's progress, and we anticipate he will resume full basketball activities in approximately six weeks."
Okafor, 20, is averaging a team-leading 17.5 points and seven rebounds per game, good for second on the team, this season for the Sixers. In addition to his shin contusion, Okafor had some soreness in his knee, unrelated, that caused him to miss a pair of games in December.
The Sixers sqaure off against the Nets tonight at 7pm. Brooklyn is the last team that Philadelphia has won against this season, all the way back on February 6th by a score of 103-98. Okafor scored 22 points and grabbed a career-high 17 rebounds in that matchup.
