Jaron Ennis Puts On Show In Atlantic City, Becomes New WBA, IBF And Ring Magazine Welterweight Champion

Atlantic City, NJ: As the saying goes, “Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting”. That is what we saw from historic Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City as Philadelphia’s own Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis would take on Eimantas Stanionis. Ennis made his way to Atlantic City with a record of 33-0 with 29 KOs. His opponent, Eimantas Stanionis, came to Boardwalk Hall with a record of 15-0 with 9 KOs.
Ennis put his IBF Title on the line while his opponent Stanionis put the WBA Title on the line. The winner also claimed the vacant Ring Magazine belt.

How the fight went:
In the first couple of rounds, Jaron Ennis would bring the fight to Eimantas Stanionis with the jab and the right hands. Stanionis would attempt to bring the pressure back to Ennis, but Ennis was just too fast – especially with the jab.
In round 6, Ennis would drop Stanionis with several body shots.

Final Thoughts:
Fighting at historic Boardwalk Hall was a great move by Matchroom Boxing. It has been 11 years since a significant title fight was held in Atlantic City and the crowd was great, especially for those who made the trip from Philadelphia.
Ennis has shown that he is one of the top fighters in the sport and should be on the pound-for-pound rankings; if he is not, it is a major slap in the face, especially for answering all the people that said he will not fight another champion. Just look what he did – he took on another champion and now has three of the major belts in the Welterweight division at 147. Ennis also showed why he is now on the list of fighters that are major box office draws like Canelo Alvarez, Gervonta Davis, Ryan Garcia, and Devin Haney.
Eddie Hearn has shown over the last year and a half that Philadelphia & Atlantic City are capable of hosting major title fights like they used to do several years ago when Mike Tyson stepped in the rings in Philadelphia & Atlantic City. Now the rest of the promoters in boxing should keep them in the rotation for hosting these fights.
