You may not have noticed, but Jason Richardson is still a Sixer. Though he has been out of commission for the better part of two years, the 33-year-old veteran isn't quite ready to hang it up quite yet.
When asked prior to the Sixers’ loss to the Celtics Wednesday at the Wells Fargo Center if he expected to play this season, Richardson replied:
“No doubt in my mind.”
At 33, the once high-flying Richardson is not ready to call it a career just yet.
“I’ll definitely be back before the All-Star break,” he continued, before sliding the timeline up a bit.
“Or January, or maybe even before this year is over with. I’ll see how my body takes all the training and getting ready for it.” [Philly.com Sports]
Richardson came to Philadelphia in the Andrew Bynum deal and will be an unrestricted free agent after the season. If he plans to play beyond this season, getting back on the court for the Sixers may be his best opportunity at another chance.
Before undergoing surgery on his knee last season, Ricardson averaged 10.5 points and 3.8 rebounds per game in 33 games for the Sixers. In 12 seasons, the former slam dunk champ has an average of 17.5 points and five rebounds per game.
