Jerad Eickhoff poised for major league debut against Marlins

Miami, FL – Tonight against the Miami Marlins (50-71), the Philadelphia Phillies (47-74) will get a first look at one of the returns they acquired last month from the Texas Rangers in the Cole Hamels trade, as right hander Jerad Eickhoff makes his major league debut.

Starting Pitching Matchup:

Philadelphia Phillies (47-74) Miami Marlins (50-71)
RHP Jerad Eickhoff RHP Kendry Flores
LHV: (2-1, 2.49 ERA) (1-1, 2.35 ERA)

Eickhoff, 25, was officially acquired from the Rangers on July 31, along with minor leaguers Jorge Alfaro, Alec Asher, Jake Thompson, Nick Williams, and veteran southpaw Matt Harrison.

Over three starts with the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, in 21 2/3 innings, Eickhoff allowed just six earned runs on 17 hits and three walks. He replaces David Buchanan in the starting rotation, who is 2-7 with a 9.00 ERA and a 1.959 WHIP ratio over ten starts this season.

Playing in his rookie season, Flores, 23, will make his seventh appearance and first career outing overall tonight against the Phillies. The Dominican Republic-native has allowed two earned runs on nine hits and two walks over 7 2/3 innings out of the bullpen this season.

Flores replaces 28-year-old right hander David Phelps in the rotation, who was shut down Tuesday after being diagnosed with a stress fracture of the radius bone in his right forearm.
