Jerad Eickhoff tosses seven shutout innings, receives no-decision in pitchers’ duel

Final: Braves 2, Phillies 1

WP: Edwin Jackson (3-3, 3.35 ERA) LP: Jerome Williams (4-11, 5.96 ERA) SV: Arodys Vizcaino (6)

Atlanta, GA – In what was a pitchers' duel for most of the night, a two-run, eighth inning rally by the Atlanta Braves (59-90) ultimately delivered the Philadelphia Phillies (56-93) their 13th loss out of their last 15 divisional games played.

First baseman Freddie Freeman's two-run double facing reliever Jerome Williams spoiled a strong outing by Phillies' rookie right hander Jerad Eickhoff.

Eickhoff tossed seven shutout innings Saturday evening, allowing just five hits and two walks over 91 pitches, 59 of which were strikes.

Braves' rookie starter RHP Ryan Weber, who was on the mound for the third time of his career, allowed just one run on two hits and two walks spanning seven innings.

Having lost each of the first two games in the three-game set, the Phillies have now been defeated in 30 of their 48 series this season.

The Phillies' only run scored on the night came in the top of the second inning.

Following back-to-back singles by right fielder Brian Bogusevic and catcher Carlos Ruiz, third baseman Cody Asche grounded into a double play to score the runner from third. Asche was not credited with a run-batted-in on the play.

The Phillies would not get a hit again until the top of the ninth, facing Braves' closer Arodys Vizcaino, as shortstop Andres Blanco doubled for the 19th time of the season.

Blanco advanced to third on a wild pitch, by center fielder Odubel Herrera struck out to end the game.

The Phillies were 0-3 with runners in scoring position tonight, leaving two runners on base. The Braves, on the other hand, were 1-8 and left seven runners on base.

That one hit for them, however, was all Fredi Gonzalez's team needed to pull three games ahead of the Phillies' in the National League East.
