Jerami Grant returns as Sixers host John Wall, playoff-thirsty Wizards

By: Brandon Apter, managing editor

Tonight, the Sixers (9-58) return to action with a short roster once again against John Wall and the Washington Wizards (32-25). The Wizards lost five consecutive games from March 4th-12th and now sit on the outside of the playoff picture, 1.5 games behind the eighth place Bulls and Pistons. Meanwhile, the Sixers are coming off of a game against the Nets that saw them allow Bojan Bogdanovic to score 44 points in a loss on Tuesday night in Brooklyn.

Philadelphia will likely be without Robert Covington and Richaun Holmes tonight, but Jerami Grant will start. With them out, both Elton Brand and Carl Landry have been getting more minutes. Over Landry's last eight games, he's averaging 11.9 points and 5.9 rebounds while Brand is scoring 4.4 per game to go along with 2.2 rebounds. In Tuesday's 131-114 loss in Brooklyn, the two combined to score 14 points while Landry also grabbed eight rebounds. The Sixers fell behind early, 32-15 after one, and never recovered. Isaiah Canaan led the Sixers with 20 points, going 5-for-10 from beyond the arc. Nerlens Noel scored 18 to go along with eight rebounds while Ish Smith also had 18 points and six assists. Nik Stauskas was the third Sixers player with 18 points. He also had seven rebounds.

The Wizards five straight losses have been followed up by two wins against both the Pistons and Bulls, the two teams ahead of them in the standings. They beat the Bulls 117-96 and Detroit by a score of 124-81. John Wall carried the Wizards against Chicago with a triple double, 29 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds. Wall recorded his third triple-double of the season on Wednesday night. He joins Draymond Green, Rajon Rondo, Russell Westbrook and Hassan Whiteside with at least three.
