Joe Savery Headed for Northeast Extension Trip to AAA; Who’s Coming to Phillies?

Joe_Savery

Well, the Phillies optioned LHP Joe Savery to the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs.

Earlier today, our Rich Wilkins called for a move – SOMETHING to change the dynamic of this incredibly boring, unentertaining team.  So who is it, and why can't the announce it now?  Some possibilities:

  1. The player coming up has not been informed.  Pitchers on the 40-man roster not on the current team or disabled list include Jake Diekman. J.C. Ramirez and Michael Schwimer, but Schwimer is ineligible to come back up without someone being injured.  Diekman is 1-0 with a 0.59 ERA.  My money's on him.
  2. The player is not currently on the 40-man roster and the team needs to make a move.  Raul Valdez, maybe?   Valdez is 1-2 with a 3.86 ERA.  Ehh.
  3. The player is on another team.  The odds are slim, however, that Ruben Amaro can make a trade now.  Few teams are out of it, so why make a trade just five-six weeks into the season?

I would love the move to be something significant, but Jake Diekman is probably it.   I would really enjoy to see what he can offer the Phillies as he was very impressive in Spring Training, but getting an out or two now and then is not what totally ails the Phillies.  Many of the bullpen blow-ups came after failed opportunities and after the Phillies' offense shut down.
