Philadelphia 76ers star center, Joel Embiid, has been given 50/1 odds to win MVP this year.
These odds were given to him by Bovada.com, a sports betting website who gave the same odds to NBA superstars Kyrie Irving, Damian Lillard, and Demar DeRozan.
He was even given even better odds than two time champ Draymond Green (60/1), teammate Ben Simmons (66/1), highly touted offseason signing Gordan Hayward (70/1), and Carmelo Anthony (75/1).
These odds are surprising considering both Simmons and Embiid are coming off of injuries. But they do look to be entering the season ready to move forward.
Both Simmons and Embiid have MVP caliber ceilings due to their dynamic skill sets.
But at this point, it is almost all potential and a question of how likely they are to hit their ceilings.
I for one, am a believer in their potential and wouldn't be surprised to see an MVP award in their future.
I wouldn't bet on them to win this season, but their odds are trending in the right direction.
