The Phillies sure waited until the last minute to make a decision. The Phillies announced that Jonathan Pettibone will make his Major League Debut on Monday night, taking the rotation slot of the injured John Lannan.
Pettibone has struggled in his first two starts in AAA Lehigh Valley so far this season. He is 0-1 with a 9.64 ERA in two starts. Pettibone was with the big league club in Spring Training long enough to make one two-inning appearance. He gave up four runs. However, in 2012 he was a combined 13-8 with a 3.10 ERA between AA Reading and AAA Lehigh Valley.
Pettibone is on the Phillies' 40-man roster, a convenience that may have factored into their decision. They may have been able to make one roster spot available, but Carlos Ruiz will need one next week when he returns from his 25-game suspension. The Phillies have not made a roster move yet on the 25-man roster to make room for Pettibone but will after the game.
