It's time for another Family Friday. What's that? Oh, we just compare family members who have played for the Sixers. First was current Sixer Gerald Henderson and his dad…Gerald Henderson. Then we did Jerami Grant and his dad Harvey Grant. Now, we're doing brothers. This one is cool since they were teammates at the same time. Justin only played one season while Jrue played 4. So, first we'll look at entire Sixers career and then we'll narrow down to that season they shared.
Jrue. The Jruth. There were some rumors that the Sixers were looking to bring him back either via trade this season or try to sign him in free agency. From what I saw, most Sixers fans liked the idea of getting their last All-Star back. Anyway, Jrue's rookie season was the disastrous 09-10 season and something about Princeton offense and something about something Iverson coming back and something.
So, Jrue's Sixers career, which as I mentioned before included becoming an All-Star, saw him average 13.4 points, 5.8 assists, and 1.4 steals. He shot 44 percent from the field and 37 percent from 3-point range. He also shot 78 percent from the free throw line. He ultimately had a 15.1 PER (Player Efficiency Rating), which is essentially average.
Justin played 9 games for the Sixers in 2012-13. His little brother played 298 for the Sixers. So, Justin averaged 4.7 points, 1.7 assists, and 0.3 steals per game. He shot 33 percent from the field and 25 percent (ew) from 3-point range. He shot 75 percent from the free throw line. His PER was 7.6 (omg that's a 76ers reference!!!).
Okay, so what about Jrue's 2012-13 season (the one he shared with his bro)? Well, this was Jrue's All-Star year, so you'd imagine his stats were probably better than his overall Sixers career stats. Let's see.
Jrue averaged 17.7 points, 8 steals, and 1.6 steals. Looking at his New Orleans Pelicans stats, those are career highs. He shot a career low 43.1 percent from the floor and 37 percent from 3-point range. His PER was 16.7. He was better than his brother across the board. Justin was an NBA rookie.
Yeah, both players started their NBA career with the Sixers. Let's look at Jrue's rookie stats, shall we?
8 points, 3.8 assists, and 1.1 steals per game. Shot 44 percent from the field and 39 from 3-point range. PER was 12.3. I'm really trying to help Justin out but Jrue's Sixers career in any season absolutely destroys Justin's. This is the first time we've seen this dominance as the Grants and Hendersons were fairly close in numbers.
Then again, Justin won an NBA championship with the Golden State Warriors so……..
