Remember a few months ago when the Phillies and Juan Cruz came to terms on a deal? Apparently Cruz himself did not. Today the Phillies announced that Cruz had not reported to Spring Training but also never signed his deal. Matt Gelb of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports:
Cruz had agreed to a minor-league contract but never officially signed it. Thus, the Phillies could not release him, per se.
So since he never really signed, he is not really cut. But the Phillies will cut up that contract he did not sign, I suppose.
