The Phillies continue to be linked to the Kansas City Royals in regards to starting pitcher A.J. Burnett.
Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports Reports:
Sources: #Phillies talking to #Royals about A.J. Burnett. No indication that deal is close.

There is a Burnett – Royals connection that might be causing the interest:
#Royals pitching coach Dave Eiland and #Phillies’ Burnett worked together when they were with the #Yankees.

Yesterday, Jim Salisbury of CSN Philly noted some interest between the two.
With two major pieces off of the trade market in Jon Lester and John Lackey, the eyes of the trade market could move to the Phillies. Justin Masterson is also off the market, as well. There are fewer pitching options available for teams, which will work in the Phillies' favor over the next few hours.
