Kyle Kendrick Outduels Josh Johnson in 1-0 Shutout

Leadoffhomer

A pitcher's duel between Josh Johnson and Kyle Kendrick, that's not something you see everyday.

Jimmy Rollins did a few awesome things tonight. For one thing, he launched his 41st career leadoff home run. This happened in the first inning, giving his team the early lead.

The next feat he accomplished occurred when the game became official: Jimmy Rollins passed Larry Bowa in most games played at shortstop with 1,730 games.

Kyle Kendrick did some amazing work tonight against the Marlins, much like Cole Hamels did last night in his complete game shutout. Kendrick tossed seven scoreless innings, allowing just five hits. He didn't walk anyone, and struck out six.

Josh Lindblom came out of the bullpen for the eighth inning and struck out one. Twenty scoreless innings from Phillies pitching.

The Phillies only managed three hits against Josh Johnson in his eight innings, but one of them was Jimmy's solo homer, so they at least had the one run.

And…that's all. Jonathan Papelbon came in for the bottom of the ninth, looking to protect the 1-0 lead and send the Phils to their fourth straight win. He did just that, and it was glorious.

This was also Charlie Manuel's 700th career win with the Philadelphia Phillies.

An afternoon game tomorrow at 12:40 will feature two perfect game winners in Roy Halladay and Mark Buehrle.
