The Phillies bullpen has been putrid this season, but despite what seems like a million different moves for the Phillies bullpen, the Phillies had avoided calling up right-handed pitcher B.J. Rosenberg. Today, the Phillies placed starter John Lannan on the 15-day disabled list with knee tendonitis and recalled Rosenberg from AAA Lehigh Valley.
Rosenberg was 3-6 with a 4.52 ERA for AAA Lehigh Valley, which includes 10 starts and 18 games out of the bullpen for the Iron Pigs. Roseberg made three appearances for the Phillies this season back in April for a total of three innings pitched. Roseberg allowed four runs in those games for a 12.00 ERA.
Lannan may miss the rest of the season (only six weeks are left). The move does not mean necessarily that Rosenberg will start; since Lannan pitched last prior to the off day, the Phillies can pitch Lee, Hamels, Kendrick, and Martin before needing a starter Tuesday against the Colorado Rockies at Citizens Bank park.
