The Phantoms headed to Charlotte locked in a 1-1 series tie after a disappointing 6-0 defeat on home ice in Game 2. In Game 3, they turned the tables on the Charlotte Checkers.

Despite getting outshot, 35-20, the Phantoms rolled to a 5-1 win in Game 3 in Charlotte to take a 2-1 series lead.

The Phantoms were outshot, 13-8, in the first period, but used two quick strikes to take a lead on Charlotte.

Mike Vecchione opened the scoring at 3:16, following up his own chance to beat Alex Nedeljkovic. Just 1:24 later, Danick Martel scored an excellent goal, beating Nedeljkovic with a shot as he was being taken down to make it 2-0 in short order.

Charlotte got on the board early in the second with a power-play goal by Valentin Zykov to cut the lead to one at 3:40. Just under two minutes later, the Phantoms struck again as Chris Conner snapped home a shot on a two-on-one to make it 3-1.

With just over seven minutes remaining in the second, the Phantoms were on the power play and took advantage in the closing seconds. It was Oskar Lindblom on the doorstep banging in a rebound to extend the Phantoms lead to three.

From there, it was all Alex Lyon. Lyon had already made 15 saves on 16 shots through two periods. In the third period, the Phantoms were outshot, 19-2, but Lyon was a brick wall, stopping all 19 shots in the final 20 minutes.

Lindblom capped the scoring with an empty-net goal with 3:22 remaining to seal the win, as Lyon finished off a stellar night making 34 saves on 35 shots.

The Phantoms finished the game 1-for-2 on the power play. Charlotte was 1-for-4.
