What was thought to be a short absence by Mack Hollins has turned into a much longer one as the Eagles announced that he was added to the injured reserve list today before their opener against the Falcons.

This means that Hollins will miss at least the first six weeks of the season. It also frees up a spot on the 53-man roster. A corresponding move has not yet been made.
The Eagles brought back Markus Wheaton earlier this week and must have felt confident enough in him to place Backpack Mack on IR. This puts the Eagles in a sticky situation early on, however. With Hollins and Richard Rodger on IR before their Week 1 matchup, the Eagles may be reluctant to place anyone else on IR. Teams are only allowed to return two players from the injured reserve each season, meaning if they intend to get Hollins and Rodgers back this season, they cannot place anyone else on IR with the intention of getting all three players back.
