Final: Orioles 8, Phillies 7 ❖ Attendance: 7,909
SARASOTA, Fla. — After sending three of their top prospects to the minor leagues today, the Phillies (10-4-2) were on the road to continue their spring schedule against the struggling Orioles (2-11-2). Third baseman Maikel Franco continued his spring tear, blasting two home runs in a game that saw the Phillies potent offense produce once again. Unfortunately, the bullpen faltered late and Baltimore emerged victorious, 8-7.
Meanwhile, with Cody Asche and Aaron Altherr nursing injuries and Odubel Herrera potentially having an issue with a finger on his right hand, Tyler Goeddel led off in today's game and looked sharp at the plate, hitting a home run to get things started. If he continues his strong play, he could make his way into the Phillies starting lineup on Opening Day or soon afterwards. Outfielder Cedric Hunter, who is also in the mix for a bench spot with the big league club, made a case for himself today, tallying three hits in five at-bats.
Leading 7-6 in the eighth inning, Phillies reliever Daniel Stumpf allowed three runs while walking two in his second frame of work. He walked in the a run before Paul Janish's two-run single plated the tying and go-ahead runs.
The Phillies will look to continue their spring success as they travel to Port Charlotte, Florida, on Tuesday for a 1:05pm matchup with their 2008 World Series opponents, the Tampa Bay Rays. Aaron Nola will look to rebound from a pair of rough starts. He'll go up against veteran right-hander Drew Smyly.

The Phillies wasted no time getting on the board as Rule-5 selection Tyler Goeddel led the game off with a solo home run to left. Two batters later, Maikel Franco hit a homer of his own, his spring leading fifth home run, to make it a 2-0 game in the first inning. Franco struck again his next time up. After a single and a steal to lead off the third inning by Tyler Goeddel, Cedric Hunter singled. Maikel Franco followed with a three-run blast to left, extending the Phillies lead to 5-0 over the Orioles.
Baltimore tacked on four runs in the bottom half of the third. Caleb Joseph drove in a run with an RBI-double and he was driven in on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Ryan Flaherty. Two batters later, Manny Machado launched a two-run home run, cutting the Phillies lead to 5-4.
Philadelphia added on some more runs in the fifth. After Cedric Hunter and Ryan Howard singled, Jorge Alfaro grounded into a fielder's choice, putting runners on the corners with just one out. A wild pitch allowed Hunter to score from third and Andres Blanco drove in Alfaro with an RBI-double to make it a 7-4 game in favor of the Phillies.
Adam Jones hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth to cut the lead to two, 7-5. The Orioles took the lead in the eighth. With the bases loaded and Daniel Stumpf on the mound, he walked Xavier Avery on four pitches. Paul Janish followed with a two-run single, putting Baltimore in the driver's seat, 8-7. Pedro Beato induced an inning-ending double play in the ninth for the save, helping claim to victory for the Orioles, just their second of the spring.
