Marlins Hire Mike Redmond to Be Manager, Pass Over Larry Bowa, Others

The Marlins have found their next manager.  No, it is not former Phillies shortstop and manager Larry Bowa.  It is who I pretty much suspected, former Marlins catcher Mike Redmond.  Redmond has two years' experience managing in the minor leagues.  Why Redmond?  Well, he is as low-key as you can probably get right now and after a rocky run with Ozzie Guillen they are better served this way.

As I mentioned last week, Bowa is not a good fit, given his strong personality that would clash with Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria.  Also interviewing for the position besides Bowa and Redmond were Reds pitching coach Bryan Price and former Pirates manager and Tigers hitting coach Lloyd McClendon.

Redmond retired from baseball after the 2010 season and went right into managing for the Blue Jays organization.  With the Marlins job now occupied, managerial jobs are still open in Colorado and in Toronto.
