As Steve Mason left the ice in Sunday's 3-1 win over the Washington Capitals, Flyers fans feared the worst. This isn't the worst-case scenario for the Flyers – Mason isn't completely shut down – but he will miss significant time.

Mason will be out two-to-three weeks with what GM Ron Hextall called a "lower-body injury." There was no further description.

As Tim Panaccio reported on Monday, Mason did have a scope of his right knee done on Tuesday, the reason for the two-to-three week timetable.

That timetable puts Mason's likely return somewhere around the beginning of March. The Flyers first game that month in on March 3 when they host the Calgary Flames.

Mason is out of action for the third time in two months, previously missing the Flyers final four games before the All-Star break.

In the interim, Anthony Stolarz was recalled from Lehigh Valley as Rob Zepp recovers from an injury as well. Zepp's injury isn't believed to be severe, so there is a chance he rejoins the Flyers during Mason's resting period.

In 34 games this season, Mason is 11-12-7 with a 2.27 GAA and .925 save percentage.
