When Steve Mason replaced Michal Neuvirth in Saturday night's win over the Wild, and injury was apparent. It was just the severity that was to be determined, and whether it would mean a prospect would be making his way to the NHL.
Neuvirth's injury is certainly going to open the door.
Flyers GM Ron Hextall announced on Sunday that Neuvirth will be out for four-to-six weeks with a lower-body injury.
Neuvirth made six saves on seven shots in the first period before exiting for Mason, who stopped 19 shots to pick up the win over Minnesota.
Neuvirth is 4-2-0 with a 3.54 GAA and .859 save percentage this season. Mason is 3-5-2 with a 3.41 GAA and .880 save percentage.
The injury opens the door for Anthony Stolarz to make his NHL debut. Stolarz was an emergency call-up on several occasions last season and was up for an extended period of time last season with Neuvirth battling injury, but did not see the ice as Mason carried the Flyers. Stolarz has a 6-1-1 record with a 2.39 GAA and .927 save percentage in eight games with the Phantoms this season.
The Flyers are back in action on Tuesday night against the Ottawa Senators at 7 p.m.
