In just 10 days on Dec. 26, the 2017 World Junior Championships will begin. Seven Flyers prospects are on camp rosters for their respective home countries, including two that were locked into Team Canada's roster earlier this week.
2016 second-round pick Carter Hart and defenseman Philippe Myers will represent Canada at the WJC. 2016 first-round pick German Rubtsov is with Team Russia. Felix Sandstrom and David Bernhardt are with Team Sweden. Tanner Laczynski is part of Team USA. Matej Tomek is part of Team Slovakia.
Hart, the Flyers second-round pick in the 2016 NHL Draft, is expected to be the lead netminder for Team Canada. With the Everett Silvertips in the WHL, Hart has a 16-3-4 with a 1.85 GAA and .928 save percentage in 24 games.
Myers, an undrafted free-agent signing by the Flyers in 2015, is in his fourth season with Rouyn-Noranda in the QMJHL. This season, in 19 games, he has eight goals and 10 assists for 18 points.
Rubtsov, the Flyers first-round pick in the 2016 NHL Draft, has split time between the MHL and KHL. In 15 games in the KHL, Rubtsov is a minus-four and has yet to register a point. In 15 games in the MHL, Rubtsov has seven goals and eight assists for 15 points.
Sandstrom, the Flyers third-round pick in the 2015 NHL Draft, is also working on a strong season, posting a 9-2-0 record with a 2.00 GAA and .918 save percentage in 11 games in the SweHL. Bernhardt has two goals and five assists for seven points in 21 games in the SweHL as well.
Laczynski, a sixth-round pick of the Flyers in the 2016 Draft, is putting up big numbers in his first season with Ohio State University with six goals and 16 assists for 22 points in 15 games.
Tomek, also a third-round pick of the Flyers in 2015, is in his second season with North Dakota, but has yet to dress for a game this season. He dressed for 10 games last season as North Dakota's No. 3 goalie, but only played in one game and did not face a shot.
The tournament starts on Monday, Dec. 26.
