With nearly a month of hockey in the books, the Flyers minor league teams are well into the start of their seasons. So far, so good for the Flyers affiliates.
Here’s this week’s look, catching up with the minor league and junior players in the Flyers organization.
AHL
Off to a 5-3-1 start, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms are third in the Atlantic Division after nine games played. What is encouraging is that the Phantoms have 35 goals in those nine games, good for nearly four per game, and are getting a ton of production.
Jordan Weal and T.J. Brennan are off to the best starts on the team. Weal has 12 points in nine games, including nine assists. Brennan has 10 points in nine games, three goals and seven assists. Greg Carey holds the team lead in goals with six.
Anthony Stolarz continues to build on a solid season in 2015-16. In seven games this season, Stolarz has a 5-2-0 record with a 2.44 GAA.
ECHL
The Reading Royals are also off to a strong start with a 6-2-1 record in nine games to open the season, good for second place in the North Division.
The Royals have three players — Chris McCarthy, Olivier Labelle and Steven Swavely — who are averaging a point per game. McCarthy leads with 10 points while Labelle and Swavely have nine points in nine games.
So far, Martin Ouellette and Mark Dekanich have split duties in goal and have both been solid, each posting a 3-1 record and combining for a 2.81 GAA.
Juniors
Oskar Lindblom is off to quite the start in the SHL. The 20-year-old has five goals and 10 assists for 15 points in 14 games so far.
Philippe Myers was returned to his junior team after the Flyers had a good, long look at him in the preseason. So far, so good for the 19-year-old defenseman, who has three goals and one assist and is a plus-6 for Rouyn-Noranda in the QMJHL.
