As February starts to wind down, the race for the playoffs in the minor leagues and juniors is starting to heat up.
Here is the latest look at how the Flyers prospects are faring in their respective leagues.
AHL
The Phantoms continued their push for the Calder Cup Playoffs with two wins in a 3-in-3 weekend, picking up wins on Saturday night against Hartford and Sunday afternoon against Utica.
Recaps of all three games this weekend can be viewed below.
- Friday, Feb. 17 – Phantoms 2, Wolf Pack 3
- Saturday, Feb. 18 – Phantoms 6, Wolf Pack 4
- Sunday, Feb. 19 – Phantoms 7, Comets 4
The Phantoms now sit in second place in the Atlantic Division with a 34-16-2 record. They trail the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins for the division lead by seven points, but also have two games in hand. If the playoffs started today, the Phantoms would be the second seed in the Atlantic Division bracket.
ECHL
It was an interesting weekend for the Reading Royals, who had a 3-in-3 with the Elmira Jackals. Their game on Friday in Elmira was postponed midway through the first period due to ice conditions. The Royals had a 2-0 lead when the game was halted with 6:07 to play in the first.
The Royals then came back to Reading for two games with Elmira on Saturday and Sunday and swept out the remainder of the weekend series. On Saturday, they claimed a 4-1 win. Nathan Moon, Derik Johnson, Mike Periera and Matt Willows had goals in the win while Martin Ouellette made 25 saves in the win.
On Sunday, Reading blanked Elmira, 2-0, behind goals from Tyrell Goulbourne and Ryan Penny while Mark Dekanich stopped all 33 shots he faced for the shutout.
Reading is two points out of first place in the North Division of the Eastern Conference with a 31-17-3 record and the third-highest point total in the East.
Juniors
Philippe Myers returned to the ice this week, playing in three games for Rouyn-Noranda after a concussion held him out of action for nearly two months. In his first game back, Myers had two assists and was a minus-1 over the three games for the Huskies this week.
Oskar Lindblom's strong season continued with two more goals in three games this week for Brynas. Lindblom now has 18 goals and 39 points in 44 games this season in the SHL.
It was a big week for Carter Hart with Everett. Hart made four starts, all wins for Everett, stopping 109 of 115 shots. Hart's season totals are now a record of 25-7-6 with a 1.95 GAA and .927 save percentage.
2015 fourth-round pick Samuel Dove-McFalls didn't find the back of the net in a 3-in-3 this weekend, but he did pick up four assists in the three games for the St. John's Sea Dogs in the QMJHL. Dove-McFalls has 12 goals and 28 assists for 40 points in 53 games.
The college hockey season is well underway, but Cooper Marody is just 12 games into his season after returning from academic ineligibility on Dec. 29. Marody had a goal and an assist in a pair of losses to Wisconsin this weekend. In 12 games, Marody has five goals and six assists for 11 points.
