For the second week in a row we have to deal with a tough loss this time it was a 23-21 defeat at the hands of the Vikings. Penalties and sloppy play costed the Eagles big this week. Eight penalties for 52 yards prevented them from developing any rhythm on either side the ball (this includes the terrible roughing call). While two turnovers added insult to injury. But there were positives to take from this game.
The biggest of these positives is Carson Wentz. Outside of the fumble, he is doing all he can to keep this team competitive. It has even come to a point he is doing so much with so little help, turnovers like the one he had today will happen. With little to no offensive line help he managed to complete 24 of his 35 passes for 311 yards and two touchdowns. As always, he was finding his partner in crime Zach Ertz who caught ten balls for 110 yards and a touchdown. If this team could have cleaned it up they might have won.
As for the Vikings, they received the memo that we could not stop the passing attack. Kirk Cousins found eight different receivers , completing 30 of 37 passes for 301 yards and a touchdown. Over 50 percent of his completions went to Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen as they combined for 17 receptions and 207 yards. Before this game, they were being noticed around the NFL as possibly one of the best receiving corps in the league; today they made a clear case for the top spot.
Next week comes early. This is good for us fans as we don’t have to sit on this loss for very long, but it is not good for the players. This Thursday night affair in New York against the Giants means little recovery time and less time to prepare for what the Giants will bring to the table on both sides of the ball. The Eagles may have a lot to fix but there is a long way to go and this is only the first of six very important divisional games in a very tight division.
