Well, at least it wasn't someone TOO important. The latest 2012 Phillies casualty to the disabled list is left-handed reliever Raul Valdes. Valdes has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a right hip strain, and left-handed reliever Joe Savery has been recalled from AAA Lehigh Valley to take his place.
Valdes has been moderately effective, going 2-2 with a 3.80 ERA in 21 games for the Phillies. He has been better than other Phillies relievers this season, such as Joe Savery.
Savery will get another chance for just the weekend and Monday, it appears. With Roy Halladay likely set to be activated to start in Los Angeles on Tuesday, Kyle Kendrick will move into this relief spot as Halladay gets his place in the starting rotation back.
Savery, a rookie who was frequently placed in high-leverage situations this season, is 0-2 with a 5.87 ERA.
