On Monday the 22nd, the NFL released the first portion of their 2019 Top 100 list.
With the release of their No. 91-100 players, the Eagles received their first player in the list for 2019.
While the players on the list are by no means a shock, the player locations can certainly be up for debate.
That is certainly the case for the first Eagle to see his name on the list: Carson Wentz.
It may seem odd, but Carson Wentz is entering just his fourth season in the league and, despite putting up incredible numbers, has yet to really reach his true potential, especially after playing all of 2018 compensating for both a knee and a back injury.
Wentz entered the 2018 season as the No. 3 player on the NFL Top 100. That came as no surprise considering he won the Bert Bell Player Of The Year Award and was the favorite to win MVP prior to his ACL tear.
Wentz has already set records for the Eagles franchise in just a partial season and put up better numbers than QBs who started all 16 games the past two seasons in just 13 and 11 starts respectively.
His regression on the list was expected following his injuries and a season of playing while still getting back his form from that lingering knee injury.
But to drop from No. 3 to 96 despite putting up average to above average numbers with both a back and knee injury is a crime. There will assuredly be quarterbacks ranked above him that are by no means better.
Wentz figures to have enough time to distance himself from the ACL tear that he should look more like his 2017 self and will benefit from the additions to deepen the offensive line, receiving corps and running back committee.
It is with every right that fans should expect to see a league MVP-caliber player in Wentz should his offensive line be able to keep him healthy throughout the season.
The disrespect he was shown by this list will only serve to fuel his breakout this year.
