Nats sweep Phillies behind consistent offense

Final: Nationals 12, Phillies 2

WP: Gio Gonzalez (11-7, 3.83) LP: Alec Asher (0-4, 9.78)

Philadelphia, PA–The Washington Nationals' offense accomplished something the 2015 Phillies batsmen could only dream of. They scored runs, and they didn't stop.

The Nats scored on the Phillies (56-91) in seven different innings, including every inning on from the fourth. Their potent lineup charged runs to the lines to starter Alec Asher and all four Phillies relievers, each of whom pitched one inning from the sixth to the ninth.

Asher, who went five innings, allowed four runs and seven hits. His counterpart was Gio Gonzalez, who allowed no runs outside of a two-run homer by Darin Ruf pitching seven innings and giving up

For the Nats, Jayson Werth slugged two long balls against his former team, including a two-run shot. Bryce Harper contributed a two-run homer of his own.

Felipe Rivero and Rafael Martin finished the game for the Nats (75-70), pitching shutout eighth and ninth innings, respectively.

The Phillies head to Atlanta tomorrow for a 7:35 start at Turner Field. Adam Morgan starts for the Phils, while the Braves starter has yet to be announced.
