NCAA Division I Men’s Ice Hockey History in Lehigh Valley

Allentown PA: College Hockey will be making its way back to the Lehigh Valley as the PPL Center, the Home of the Lehigh Valley Phantoms of the AHL & the affiliates of the Philadelphia Flyers will be hosting the 2025 NCAA Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Regionals on Friday, March 28 and Sunday, March 30 with the winner going to the Frozen Four at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis on April 10 & 12,
PPL Center would be chosen as the Midwest Regional site for the NCAA Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Regionals
let’s take a look back at the history of NCAA Hockey at PPL Center
The PPL Center in Allentown opened up in 2014 & holds a capacity of 8,500 & Penn State has been the Primary host team when the NCAA Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Regionals have come to the Lehigh Valley
2018: the teams that took part were Ohio State, Princeton, Penn State & Denver, in the final was Ohio State vs Denver with the Buckeyes winning to make the final four & Attendance in the Final was 5,124
2019: The teams were Minnesota-Duluth, Arizona State, Quinnipiac & Bowling Green & in the final, it would be Minnesota-Duluth taking down Quinnipiac, Attendance in the Final was 3,531
PPL Center was supposed to host the regional in 2020 but it was Canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic
The Regional would return to Lehigh Valley in 2022 & the teams that took part were Michigan, Quinnipiac, St. Cloud State & American International with the final being Michigan taking down Quinnipiac, Attendance in the Final was 3,256
2023: The teams that made their way to the Lehigh Valley were Michigan, Penn State, Michigan Tech & Colgate & in the final it was Michigan beating Penn State in Overtime, Attendance in the Final was 8,375
