From the origins of the Philadelphia Flyers franchise, the uniforms of the team have always had similarities. The Orange and Black have always had a familiar pattern for the uniforms, with the current jerseys bearing resemblance of those from the team’s inaugural season in 1967.
The Flyers have tried a third alternate jersey for home games in the past. And now, according to the 2014 Reebok catalog, the Flyers may be introducing a new jersey for the 2014-15 season. The report has not been confirmed in the media and is pure speculation of the catalog at this point.
The Flyers have used third-alternate jerseys in the past. It started with the black jerseys that would eventually take over as the primary home jersey. That jersey debuted in the late 1990s and carried over into the early 2000s, evolving through the years.
Once black became the Flyers primary jersey color, the Flyers unveiled a new orange jersey in 2003, featuring a three-dimensional design and logo. It stuck around for a few years before Reebok took over the jersey designs.
With the primary black and white home and away jerseys getting a makeover, the Flyers chose to go classic with the orange third-jersey. The jersey was hardly an alternate. Before long, the Flyers starting wearing that as the regular home uniform that everyone knows today. The white jersey followed after the Flyers appearance in the 2010 Winter Classic.
The Flyers did continue to use the first-edition Reebok black uniform as an alternate for four seasons from 2007 to 2010. Since 2010, the Flyers have used the current uniforms they have now.
