It's been since 2008 since the Phillies had any significant uniform change. That is when the Phillies introduced their retro creme/blue/red jerseys for day games. Philliedelphia.com just signed up to be a partner of Fanatics.com, which sells licensed MLB merchandise, and I came across a couple things that I cannot find yet on the Phillies' own website. With the Altanta Braves introducing a new alternate jersey today, I wonder if the Phillies could have one of their own.
Now, on Fanatics.com, they are already selling this Phillies 2014 batting practice jersey:
In preparation for Spring Training, I just bought a Phillies batting practice jersey from Phillies.com the other day, with the understanding that it was a 2014 batting practice jersey. Either they were misrepresenting the image, or they are trying to sell out the 2011-2013 version first.
But, what I am wondering is if the Phillies also have an alternative jersey that they just have not unveiled yet. Here is what the Braves announced today, courtesy of sportslogos.net:
Fanatics.com is already selling this red Phillies "replica" jersey for 2014:
This jersey is reminiscient of the batting practice jerseys the Phillies wore up through 2006, when they unvield the standard MLB format jerseys. What this has similiar to the old jerseys are the white rims around the ends of the short sleeve. That is what matches up with the Atlanta Braves jersey unveiled today, which makes me wonder if a Phillies uniform switch is in order. If this is a "replica", it implies there is something official that they are trying to replicate.
Did Fanatics.com jump the gun and sell these before the Phillies announced them? That remains to be seen. But, I'll be annoyed if I bought what was advertised by the Phillies in the 2014 collection as their batting practice jersey when it's not. I will see what arrives in my mail.
